Community Guidelines
Last updated: August 14, 2026
MentorHog only works if both sides can trust it — a mentee sharing something they're genuinely stuck on, a mentor giving honest, specific feedback. These guidelines are what makes that possible. They apply everywhere you interact with another person on MentorHog: live sessions, messages, session notes, and reviews. They're incorporated into our Terms of Service by reference — breaking them is a Terms violation, not just bad form.
Our principles
- Show up prepared. A booked session is time someone is paying for (or time a mentor is donating on a free discovery call) — treat it accordingly.
- Be honest. About your experience, your goals, and your feedback. Mentorship built on an inflated résumé or a vague ask helps no one.
- Be respectful. Disagreement and hard feedback are part of real mentorship. Harassment, discrimination, and personal attacks are not.
Not allowed, for anyone
- Harassment, hate speech, or discrimination on the basis of any protected characteristic.
- Misrepresenting your identity, credentials, employer, or experience.
- Sharing another user's personal information without their consent.
- Using MentorHog to solicit unrelated products, services, or job offers.
- Taking a mentorship formed on MentorHog and moving payment off-platform to avoid the platform fee.
- Posting a review that isn't based on a real mentorship experience.
For mentors
You're vetted before you're listed, and mentees are trusting that vetting. Keep your profile — experience, discipline, availability — accurate and current. Give mentees your real attention during a session, not a distracted, half-present one. If a mentorship genuinely isn't a fit, say so — a mentee is better served by an honest "this isn't the right match" than a session coasted through.
For mentees
Come with a real question or goal, even a rough one — a free discovery call is meant to establish fit, not to extract free consulting with no intention of booking. Respect your mentor's time: show up, or cancel/reschedule with reasonable notice per the policy shown at booking.
Sessions & recording
A session may only be recorded if both the mentor and the mentee explicitly consent for that specific session — one side agreeing on someone else's behalf isn't consent. Recording, transcripts, and how long they're kept are described in full in our Privacy Policy.
Reviews & feedback
Reviews are public and shown on a mentor's profile with the reviewer's name and avatar attached — write them the way you'd want to be written about. Reviews should reflect what actually happened in the mentorship, not a rating driven by something unrelated (a scheduling mix-up, a payment dispute — those go to support, not a 1-star review).
Reporting a concern
If another user violates these guidelines, email [email protected] with what happened and, if relevant, when. We review every report.
Enforcement
What happens next depends on what happened — a first, minor issue usually gets a warning; harassment, fraud, or repeated violations can mean immediate suspension. We weigh severity and pattern, not just a single report, before acting.
Changes to These Guidelines
We may update these guidelines as the community and the product grow. Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above.
